Nutrition Services provides consultation to
other programs in the County. Registered Dietitians (RD), experts
in nutrition, may counsel individuals and groups in the following
areas:
Facility Inspections
In conjunction with Environmental Health,
Registered Dietitians in Nutrition Services conduct yearly
inspections of the 12 county-operated correctional facilities and
protective custody facilities. They ensure that these facilities
for adults and juveniles comply with State and Federal mandates
regarding food safety, nutritional adequacy of meals and meal
service.
Child Health and
Disability Prevention (CHDP): Program Nutrition Consultation
Services
CHDP is a preventive health program that
provides California's low-income youth with regular health
check-ups and immunizations. Nutrition assessment and counseling
are part of the exams. Nutrition Services assist local health
professionals conducting CHDP exams by providing technical
consultation, information and patient education materials.
Tuberculosis (TB)
Nutrition Therapy
Registered Dietitians receive referrals for
nutrition assessment of tuberculosis clients identified as at-risk
for potential weight loss or nutrient deficiency while they
undergo TB treatment. The RD develops and implements nutrition
care plans for each patient and discusses any therapeutic diets
prescribed by physicians.
