The County of Orange Health Care Agency - Nutrition Services Program offers a variety of services:

Supplemental nutritious foods and nutrition education to low-income families through the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program.

Nutrition consultation to clients receiving methadone, HIV services, and pulmonary services at County clinics.

Nutrition consultation to correctional medical services, local adult and juvenile detention facilities and protective custody facilities.

Nutrition consultation to health professionals associated with the Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) program.

Breastfeeding Promotion and Support.

Referrals to other nutrition and food assistance programs.

Referrals to community health care providers and community programs.

2. What do dietitians do in Nutrition Services?
Registered Dietitians (Public Health Nutritionist I, II, & Supervising Public Health Nutritionists) are employed by the County of Orange Health Care Agency. They perform a variety of duties according to their classification:

Provide one-on-one nutrition counseling with high-risk clients.

Develop nutrition classes and education materials.

Provide breastfeeding support to clients and the general public.

Conduct nutrition presentations at various locations such as schools, social service agencies and community based organizations.

Work closely with dietetic interns from local colleges.

Supervise and train staff who work at WIC clinics.

Inspect local adult and juvenile detention facilities and protective custody facilities for food service sanitation and menu evaluation.

Conduct community outreach through health fairs, news articles and various organized efforts.

Provide consultation with the Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) program.

Participate in and support community coalitions, consortiums, and task forces.

Liaison with community groups to promote healthy eating

Positions are eligible for merit increases and participation in the Performance Incentive Program.
