Alcohol and Drug Education and
Prevention Team (ADEPT)
Regional Contract Services
Dividing the county into three regions, we have three community-based prevention contracts that provide community Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) prevention services throughout Orange County. Project staff offer technical assistance and training on prevention to various groups, including community agencies, city government officials, police departments, and community members. Additionally, these contracts conduct prevention activities that include coalition-building, conducting community assessments and developing/implementing prevention strategies.
South Region
National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence - Orange County / Community Alliance Network (CAN)
CAN is the prevention arm of NCADD-OC and is dedicated to creating and implementing prevention strategies that de-normalize the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD). Through collaborative planning activities and educational programs in the South region of Orange County, CAN strives to reduce the prevalence of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs in the South region of Orange County. The South Region is composed of Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, and unincorporated areas. Central Region
Community Service Programs: Positive Actions Toward Health
CSP~PATH is a community-based prevention project that aims to create safe and healthy communities by reducing problems associated with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use through education, training, and technical assistance in the Central region of Orange County. The Central Region is composed of Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Orange, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster, and unincorporated areas. North Region
Community Service Programs: Positive Actions Toward Health
CSP~PATH is a community-based prevention project that aims to create safe and healthy communities by reducing problems associated with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use through education, training, and technical assistance in the North region of Orange County. The North region is composed of Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, La Habra, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Placentia, Stanton, Yorba Linda, and unincorporated areas. School Based Programs
Alcohol, Tobacco, Other Drugs and Violence Free Poster and Creative Writing Contest - Orange County Department of Education
The Orange County Alcohol, Tobacco, Other Drug, and Violence Prevention Poster and Creative Writing Contest recognizes and supports students for creatively depicting lifestyles free of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and violence. The Contest aims to positively affect Orange County attitudes, perceptions and behaviors by placing winning artwork in local communities, therefore increasing youth and adult exposure to healthy messages. Friday Night Live Partnership - Orange County Department of Education (OCFNLP)
The OCFNLP includes Friday Night Live for high school students, Club Live for intermediate and junior high school students, and Friday Night Live Kids for elementary school students. Friday Night Live builds partnerships for positive and healthy youth development and engages youth as active leaders and resources in their communities. This statewide network engages young participants in examining the social and environmental messages that support substance use and abuse, and developing policy solutions to community issues. National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence - Orange County / Community Alliance Network (CAN) - Red Ribbon Celebration:
The Red Ribbon Celebration provides opportunities for youth throughout Orange County to create and participate in ATOD-free campaigns, activities and events. Education and training are provided to schools, groups and various organizations on alcohol and other drug prevention. Through countywide collaborations with local schools, businesses and community-based organizations, the Red Ribbon Celebration has expanded the statewide Red Ribbon Week campaign into a year-round prevention celebration in Orange County. PAL® A Peer Assistance Leadership Program Orange County Department of Education
PAL® Peer Assistance Leadership Program is a school-based alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention program that emphasizes training students to participate in a peer-to-peer approach to guide their peers to stay alcohol, tobacco, and other drug free. PAL® programs are found in a majority of Orange County’s public and private schools, including elementary schools, intermediate/junior high schools, high schools, continuation and alternative schools. Community Based Programs
Applied Management & Planning Group (AMPG) - Youth Access to Alcohol Study
The Applied Management & Planning Group (AMPG) is a full-service consulting firm that was incorporated in 1989 to translate the founders experience in academic research into devising effective solutions to the problems of public agencies and businesses. AMPG has extensive experience in conducting focus groups, survey research, and statistical analyses and has been selected as one of Los Angeles’ Top Women-owned Businesses eight times since its founding.
Joining AMPG in this project is the Evaluation & Training Institute (ETI), a non-profit company specializing in research related to youth and education. ETI has over 27 years of experience in third-party evaluations of school-based programs, which included surveys, focus groups and other research with students and youth. California Hispanic Commission on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (CHCADA)– La Familia
La Familia Prevention works to increase awareness on the consequences of alcohol and other drugs among the Latino community. By providing educational services, La Familia Prevention focuses on critical life and social skills, student and parent groups, alternative and diversionary activities, and outreach services to the community. Campus Community Alcohol Management Project (CCAMP)
Through resources from the State Department of Alcohol and Drug Program’s State Incentive Grant, ADEPT is partnering with the University of California Irvine (UCI) and California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) on a prevention initiative designed to reduce high-risk drinking and related problems among young adults ages 18-24. CLEW Associates - Alcohol/drug Sensitive Information Planning System
The ASIPS/GIS Program (developed by CLEW Associates in 1989) is a specialized information utility designed to assist local communities in developing data on alcohol and other drug (AOD) involvement in police activities and applying that data to the prevention or reduction of AOD-related problems in the local community. The heart of the program is an ASIPS Data Base, which uses a unique AOD Indicator to capture data about the full extent of alcohol/drug involvement in all police activity and to report this activity in local community environment contexts of time, location, and type of setting. Faith-Based ATOD Prevention Project
CSP/PATH is a community-based prevention project that aims to create safe and healthy communities by reducing problems associated with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use among the faith communities. Mariposa Women’s Center
The Mariposa Women’s Center is a private non-profit community-based counseling agency designed to meet the special needs of women (and their families) with drug and alcohol problems. Mariposa currently serves the community through a variety of services including substance abuse prevention and outreach services, life skills workshops and substance abuse education groups.
