How can I get a free breast exam and a mammogram? The Cancer Detection Programs: Every Woman Counts (CDP: EWC) provides free breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic procedures, including clinical breast exams, mammograms, and Pap tests to women who meet the following criteria:

Medically uninsured and underinsured

Age 40 and older for clinical breast exams and mammograms (breast cancer screening)

Age 25 and older for Pap tests (cervical cancer screening)

At or below 200% of federal poverty level

What if I get a bill in the mail? If you qualify for CDP: EWC services, then all services are free. The bill you received is probably a mistake and you should contact our Clinical Coordinator, Sharri Mahdavi at (714) 834-6193 or smahdavi@ochca.com. She will ask for copies of the bill you received and your CDP: EWC identification card, which you can fax to (714) 834-5053 or mail to 12 Civic Center Plaza, Suite 127, Santa Ana, CA 92701. Make sure you include your phone number.

What if I don’t qualify for CDP: EWC services? If you live in Orange County, you can contact Susan G. Komen for the Cure at (714) 957-9157 or visit www.komenoc.org and click on “Grants” and select “Komen Fund for Breast Health Care Program.” This program works with local community clinics to cover the cost of diagnostic breast health services for those who don’t have any or enough health insurance and are not eligible for other state or federal programs.
You may also contact a local clinic to see what resources and programs are available including low-cost screening. Visit the Coalition of Orange County Community Clinics for a list of clinics.

What happens if I am diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer? The program works with the California Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program (BCCTP) to provide referrals for treatment. California residents diagnosed with primary breast cancer, who are 18 years of age and older, at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, with no identifiable source of coverage for breast cancer treatment are eligible. For more information about the BCCTP, please call (800) 824-0088.
