The University of California, Irvine Calsafe Program and
the UCI School of Medicine Center for Trauma and Injury Prevention Research
present a Community Traffic Safety forum on MOTORCYCLE SAFETY to discuss
current Issues and best practices.
A resurgence in the popularity of motorcycles has resulted
in an urgency to address the safety of riders. California motorcycle rider
fatalities have been rising since 1997, reaching 432 in 2004 - the highest
level since 1998. These 432 deaths represent 10.5% of traffic fatalities
despite the fact that fewer than 3% of registered passenger vehicles in
California are motorcycles.
This forum will address the National Agenda for Motorcycle
Safety, national motorcycle injury and fatality trends, current and emerging
issues on motorcycle safety, motorcycle helmet testing and effectiveness and
enforcement issues related to motorcycles.
