Medical Reserve Corps
Mission Statement
The mission of the Orange County
Medical Reserve Corps is to enhance the emergency preparedness and
response capabilities of Orange County through advanced
registration, organization and training of volunteer health
professionals who can be readily mobilized to respond to a major
emergency or disaster, whether man-made or natural, when the
existing health infrastructure is overwhelmed and unable to
provide needed medical care in a timely manner.
Program Objectives
-
To
develop and maintain an Orange County Medical Reserve Corps that
is officially recognized by both the State and Federal
governments.
-
To
proactively swear each volunteer into the County as a Disaster
Service Worker.
-
To
develop a cadre of qualified medical professionals that can, on
a temporary/emergency basis, assist the County in a voluntary
capacity in expanding its available number of medical
professionals that could be deployed to either county-operated
medical/health programs or to the private sector (e.g. hospitals
or clinics).
-
To
provide a cadre of qualified medical professionals willing to
volunteer time to the County in non-emergency activities
requiring medical knowledge or expertise (e.g. community
education).
-
To
create a continuing education program for medical professionals
as an incentive to maintaining membership on the Medical Reserve
Corps. Such training shall include, but not be limited to,
continuing education classes that will familiarize the medical
volunteer with the emergency response plan of Orange County, and
in particular the Health Care Agency.
