The Orange County Nutrition and Physical Activity Collaborative (NuPAC) is a countywide community collaborative providing leadership and coordination in the areas of nutrition and physical activity. Over 200 members are part of the collaborative. Membership is open to all who have a professional or personal interest in promoting healthy eating and active lifestyles.
To lead coordinated efforts and maximize resources to decrease obesity and improve healthy eating and physical activity among Orange County families and communities.
In addition to NuPAC's role of providing a forum for the exchange of information among public and private providers in Orange County, it specifically supports two areas of activity: the development and implementation of the Orange County Obesity Prevention Plan and support of the nutrition education initiatives.
In 2010, the California Obesity Prevention Plan was revised. NuPAC is in the process of reviewing the plan and determining how best to support these statewide efforts. The state plan includes four goals and focuses on nine sectors:
Increase the number of parents, especially low income parents, who participate in school and community nutrition education efforts and subsequently advocate for improved access to nutritious, affordable food and active neighborhoods.
Combat obesity by helping OC residents make healthy beverage choices.
NuPAC functions as the Regional Network collaborative, a grant project funded by the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) through the Network for a Healthy California. Not all NuPAC activities are USDA allowable and are pursued through other non-USDA funding sources.
