Our Mission

To lead coordinated efforts and maximize resources to decrease obesity and improve healthy eating and physical activity among Orange County families and communities.

Our Goals

  1. Use the Orange County Obesity Prevention Plan (OCOPP) as a framework for action.
  2. Position NuPAC as the recognized leader on childhood obesity efforts, maximizing resources, results and relevancy for Orange County.
In addition to NuPAC's role of providing a forum for the exchange of information among public and private providers in Orange County, it specifically supports two areas of activity: the development and implementation of the Orange County Obesity Prevention Plan and support of the nutrition education initiatives.

Orange County Obesity Prevention Plan (OCOPP)

Obesity is correlated to many poor health outcomes. Primary factors leading to obesity are poor nutrition and insufficient physical activity. These are a result of complex behavioral and societal issues and require multiple strategies and programs to affectively address them. In 2008, NuPAC launched the Orange County Obesity Prevention Plan, patterned after the California Obesity Prevention Plan. Areas of activities focus on seven sectors:

  1. Local government
  2. Families
  3. Health Care Insurers & Providers
  4. Schools
  5. Employers & Worksites
  6. Food & Beverage Industry
  7. Entertainment & Professional Sports

This plan provides a framework in which multiple partners can work together and measure their progress.

NuPAC's OC Obesity Prevention Plan in Action (OCOPPIA) is a fiscal sponsorship project of VCOC and funded by the Health Funders' Partnership of Orange County (HFPOC). In addition, through Kaiser Permanente's Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) grant, NuPAC received funding to help the City of Stanton establish joint use agreements to improve access to physical activity.
