(Santa Ana) Children and Youth Services' (CYS) Project Together of the Orange County Health Care Agency will be sending children from the program to participate in Mervyn's 2000 Child Spree on Saturday, August 5, 2000, 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m., at Mervyn's, 200 Imperial Highway, Fullerton. Project Together staff coordinated with regional therapists to identify 14 children that could most benefit by attending. Mentors from Project Together will accompany children to help them shop. The event is an annual back-to-school effort that helps over 15,000 children statewide from low-income families get dressed for school. Mervyn's California provides a clothing allowance of $100 per child for new shoes and school clothes. "This is a great way to help out children in need and demonstrate we care about the community," said Linda Deal, project coordinator for Mervyn's North Fullerton store, which is assisting a total of 54 children in this year's event. HCA's Deputy Agency Director for Behavioral Health Services, Douglas C. Barton, commended this special project. "The generosity of Mervyn's will have a positive impact on the self esteem of these very deserving children. We are appreciative of their efforts and would love to see others in the business community follow their lead," said Barton. The store will also host a breakfast for the students and provide new backpacks that are filled with school supplies. # # #
