(Midway City)-Insomnia, a condition that affects 40% of older adults, will be the subject of a special community education presentation Wednesday, September 13, 12 p.m.-1 p.m., at the Midway City Community Center, 14900 Park Lane, Midway City. Guest speaker for the free presentation will be pharmacist Dan Ketchum of Orange County Health Care Agency Older Adult Services. The program will feature information on medications available to treat insomnia and other treatment methods that do not call for medication. Insomnia, or the inability to get enough quality sleep to support daytime activities, can decrease quality of life and have serious physical and mental health implications. Insomnia sufferers are more likely to suffer a fall and to be involved in an auto accident. Poor sleep can be caused by natural changes in sleep patterns, medical conditions, stress, sleep habits and underlying mental health conditions. Medications available to treat insomnia can also have side effects, interfere with other medicines and may fail to bring long-term relief. For more information on the program, please call the Midway City Community Center at 714-898-0203. # # #
