(Santa Ana) - Mental illnesses do not discriminate - they affect all segments of Orange County residents, rich and poor, young and old, white and black, Hispanic and Asian. In an effort to hear about concerns and suggestions for mental health services in Orange County, the public is invited to attend a Public Hearing sponsored by the Orange County Mental Health Board on May 23^rd, 9:30 a.m. to 11a.m., Hall of Administration, Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission Meeting Rooms, 10 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana.

Mental Health Month is observed every May, both nationally and locally. "Mental Health Month provides an excellent opportunity to remind us that mental illness is a brain disease, not unlike any other physical illness, that affects at least one of five people, personally or through a family member," said Douglas Barton, Deputy Agency Director, Behavioral Health Services, Orange County Health Care Agency.
