(Santa Ana) – HIV Testing is an essential component in providing early treatment and risk reduction education to those who may be affected by HIV.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 180,000 to 280,000 Americans don’t know they are infected with HIV.   In observance of National HIV Testing Day on June 27, the Orange County Health Care Agency encourages willing participants to visit one of its free anonymous HIV testing sites.

“Anyone can become infected with HIV through risky behaviors,” said County Health Officer Mark Horton, M.D.  “And many individuals are unaware of their personal risks or that they are actually infected.  If you believe that you have been at risk for HIV infection, you have also been at risk for other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). Get tested for HIV and STDs and take care of yourself and those around you."

With today’s advances in testing and treatment, it is imperative for individuals who may be at risk to get tested.  Knowing the results earlier can help those who test positive to obtain immediate care and the necessary treatment to help them stay healthy longer.

The Orange County Health Clinic located at 1725 W. 17^th Street in Santa Ana offers free HIV and STD testing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday with extended hours until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings.  HIV Testing is also offered at its San Juan Capistrano satellite facility on Thursdays.  For more information on the availability of this testing location, call (714) 834-8787.
