Student Created Anti-Tobacco Bus Shelter Unveiling

WHAT:       A tobacco free bus shelter ad unveiling event will take place in the City of Fullerton to showcase the winning artwork of a Nicholas Jr. High eighth grade student. The student’s design was chosen from more than 100 entries from the Health Care Agency’s Tobacco Use Prevention Program’s (TUPP) “Tune Out Tobacco” billboard workshop project. Sponsored by TUPP’s “Back That Ash Up” youth coalition, the student’s artwork was chosen as best in countering the positive portrayal of tobacco in movies, television, magazines and store advertising.

WHEN:       Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 10 a.m.

WHERE:     Bus shelter located on the Corner of Euclid and Hill near Nicolas Jr. High School (1100 W. Olive, 92833) in the City of Fullerton.

WHO:         Artwork winner Patrick Wongprasert, local city dignitaries, students, teachers and principal from Nicolas Jr. High School, and local community members will be on hand to support the unveiling of the bus shelter ad.

WHY:         The tobacco industry spends an alarming $16 million each day (or $11,000 a minute) on advertising and special promotions.  To counter these negative effects, the TUPP program’s goal is to reduce tobacco use and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke in Orange County by working with local community organizations, schools and committed individuals. TUPP provides services to Orange County residents through its youth, community service and public policy programs. For more information, please call the TUPP program at  (714) 541-1444.
