Tipper Gore To Address Statewide Cultural
Competency and Mental Health Summit in Anaheim
(Anaheim) –
Mental health advocate Tipper Gore is among the featured speakers scheduled
to appear at the 12th Annual Statewide Cultural Competence and Mental Health
Summit, to be held October 6-7 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Mrs. Gore’s commitment to eradicating the stigma
associated with mental illness and educating Americans about the need for
quality, affordable mental health care placed her in the unique position to
serve as the Mental Health Policy Advisor to President Clinton during her
husband’s tenure as Vice President. In June 1999, she chaired the first-ever
White House Conference on Mental Health, which interactively involved tens
of thousands of Americans.
Joining Mrs. Gore as featured presenters at the Summit
are Orange County Sheriff Michael S. Carona; Joseph White, Ph.D., Professor
Emeritus of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of California,
Irvine; and Dr. J. David Kinzie, Director of the Post Traumatic Stress
Disorders Clinic at the Oregon Health Sciences University.
The statewide conference, presented by the Orange
County Health Care Agency, is expected to draw hundreds of professionals
from the fields of mental health, health care and law enforcement.
Continuing education credit in several disciplines will be offered for
attending the conference and its workshop sessions. Complete information on
the conference, including registration information, is available on the
summit website at
