Walk to School DayWalk to School is a fun, educational event involving children, parents, and community leaders. If you are interested in raising awareness about:

  • Reinforcing children’s good traffic safety skills

  • Creating and maintaining safe places for children to walk and bike within their neighborhood

  • Promoting the fact that children need regular physical activity to stay strong and healthy

Consider becoming a coordinator for your school. Principals, teachers, parents…anyone can become a coordinator. Get your school principal’s permission to coordinate your event and register to receive a free toolkit.

The free toolkit includes:

  • Walkabilty checklist in three languages

  • Nutrition information

  • Important resources within your city

  • Ideas for classroom activities

  • Suggestions for immediate and long-term changes

  • Sample letters to stakeholders

  • Supplemental educational handouts

  • Suggested timeline

  • Examples of successful events within our county

  • Information on how to get publicity

  • Sample proclamation letters

  • Where to go for funding opportunities

Plus you’ll receive:

  • Technical assistance from the Orange County Health Care Agency

  • Incentive material if you are among the first 50 schools to register

How Can I Get Started?

You can register online! Remember you must have your school principal’s consent before organizing the event. If you need help, please download a copy of our “letter to the principal” to get you started. The first 50 schools to register will receive additional incentive materials.
