The purpose of the Orange County Dental Health Program is to provide basic and/or essential dental services to persons in Orange County with no other resources for dental care. We also provide school based dental health education, general dental care to minors housed in county probation institutions and general dental care to patients infected with HIV.

  1. Who is eligible for HIV dental services?
    Children and adults who are infected with the human immuno-deficiency virus and have the following:

    • Low income
    • Cannot afford private dental care
    • Are not eligible for Denti-Cal
    • Do not have dental insurance
    • Require one of the services provided
  1. How can persons obtain dental services?
    Eligible children and adults can call or come into the dental clinic to request services. HIV dental services are provided throughout the year.

    • Dental X-rays
    • Restorations (fillings)
    • Endodontic Therapy (root canals)
    • Periodontal treatment and prophylaxis (cleaning)
  1. Who provides these services?
    Public Health dental health professionals, funded by Ryan White Grants.
  1. What is the cost for these services?
    HIV Dental Program services are provided at no cost to eligible patients.
  1. Who is eligible for Children's Dental Services?
    All children enrolled in public or private elementary schools, kindergarten through eighth grade and have the following:
  • Low-income families
  • Cannot afford private dental care
  • Are not eligible for medi-Cal or Denti-Cal
  • Do not have dental insurance
  • Require one of the services provided
  1. How can children obtain dental services?
  • Eligible children can be referred to the Children's Dental Program by their school nurse.
  • If your child needs dental care, contact your child's school nurse to arrange for dental evaluation and for referral to the Children's Dental program.
  • The school nurse will evaluate the need for dental care and the family's financial eligibility.
  • The school nurse will schedule all necessary appointments at the Dental Clinic for your child.

  • Examination
  • Dental X-rays
  • Restorations (fillings)
  • Dental Extractions
  • Preventive dental care, including: sealants, cleaning (prophylaxis), application of Fluoride, Oral hygiene instruction
  1. Who provides these Children's Dental Services?
    These dental services are provided by volunteer dentists and dental hygienists from the Orange County Dental Society and the Orange County Dental Hygiene Society.
  1. What is the cost for these Children's Dental Services?
    Children's Dental Program services are provided at no cost to eligible families.
  1. Who is eligible for Emergency Dental Services?
  • Adults and children with swelling or infection
  • Low Income
  • Cannot afford private dental care
  • Are not eligible for Medi-Cal or Denti-Cal
  • Do not have dental insurance
  1. How can person obtain Emergency Dental Services?
    Eligible children and adults can call to make an appointment by phone to request Emergency Services. Emergency Services are provided throughout the year.
     
  2. What Emergency Dental Services are provided?
    Clinical screening evaluation ((by appointment only). All applicants receive a preliminary evaluation to confirm extraction is needed or referred to another program for services.
  • Examinations of the tooth ache area
  • Dental X-rays of the tooth ache area
  • Single extractions of the offending tooth only
  1. What Emergency Dental Services are NOT provided?
  • Restorations (fillings)
  • Replacements (dentures, denture repair)
  • Endodontic (root canal) therapy
  • Treatment of major injuries, infections or pathology
  • Periodontal (gum) treatment or prophylaxis (cleaning)
  1. Who provides these Emergency Dental Services?
    Public Health, Dental Health professionals provide the Emergency Dental Program services.
  1. What is the cost for Emergency Dental Services?
  • Effective 9/15/06, a sliding fee will be charged based on your income and family size, which will be determined at your visit.
  • Payment is required at the time of service.
