Body Solutions

Leigh-Anne met a guy who works at the FISH radio Station (95.9 FM). He wanted us to give him information on body solutions to give to his boss in order to remove it from the air. Ellen, Isabel and Leigh-Anne wrote up information about body solutions. The information was sent to the FISH.

Possibly f/u with other radio stations with similar action.

Media Activity Everyone would be assigned to a radio station and would listen and monitor dietary supplements commercial/advertising. Then we would send in letters to radio stations about the supplements they advertise. Rosario mentioned to be sure to mention that we cc’d the FTC and the FDA.

The following radio stations could be monitored:
KABC (790 AM), KFI 640, KLAC 570, KFWB, KBIG 104.3, KISS, STAR 98.7

We can possibly write a press release … ? We can find someone that used Body Solutions and did not work for e.g.: suffered laxative effect.
If you know someone that has had an adverse affect to body solutions, contact Isabel.

Arlene will write up a letter on behalf of NAC to Registered Dietians in the community to find consumers using/used body solutions and had adverse reactions.

Leigh-Anne will send Arlene everyone’s e-mail address.

FTC updates Given by Leigh-Anne Rice Isabel will write a cover letter.
Spring conference At our next meeting we will discuss a future Spring Conference. Everyone is to think about possible speakers. Maybe we can have 2 speakers for 90 minutes each? Fridays are better and ½ day works well. We will need bigger room (CSUF auditorium?). A discussion will be held at the meeting. Bring ideas at the next meeting.
Articles for the Nutrition Times Newsletter Send articles to Leigh-Anne or Isabel. Don Paulin will send an article and will come up with questions and answers activities.
Member sharing Isabel brought article on ADA position on nutrition misinformation article which was publish in the JADA in February 2002. Lynn wants to write an article on the ADA position of misinformation for the Nutrition Times.
Arlene Hoffman Orange County Wellness Coalition. The topic of the 1st speaker caught her eye as possible fraud. Whitaker was one of the speakers.

They do not screen members as part of their Coalition.
(See flyer for more information)
Find articles on Whitaker on quackwatch.

Susan will attend and report at the next meeting.

May consider taking a position on their credibility.

Ideas for Next year

1. Have another conference

2. Target radio station to decrease Quacks

3. Conference on Aging in Nov – 14th tentatively. They have an info van that goes all over OC to educate. We can give them material.

4. Work with Healthy Dining in Quackery prevention (promote better eating)

5. Health Fairs – Booth at CDA(will be in Anaheim) next to FDA and high schools/colleges

The FDA needs an RD for the AIDS task force. They meet 2x/year (once north CA and once south CA) and all expenses paid by the FDA. They meet monthly via phone.
