Further, we are dedicated to the promotion of optimal health and nutrition through consumer education and awareness.
Goals
Generate community awareness and provide education in safe and effective nutrition products and practices to targeted groups: older adults.
Support and promote consumer health education in schools.
Develop linkages with health care professional groups in Orange County to provide relevant information and to support in-service training, enabling professionals to recognize questionable nutrition products and services.
Collect and analyze epidemiological data to support Coalition objectives and activities.
Formed in May 1998, the Orange County Nutrition Alert Coalition is a community coalition composed of members from various government and regulatory agencies, community organizations; and interested members of the community within Southern California. The coalition is dedicated to the promotion of optimal health and nutrition through consumer education. Good nutrition can help individuals lead healthier lives, but often the message consumers receive is confusing. To help the community, County of Orange Health Care Agency Nutrition Services has established a Nutrition Alert Coalition to focus attention on combating nutrition misinformation.
The program objectives are to:
-
Increase the awareness and knowledge of reliable nutrition information and nutrition misinformation in order to combat health/nutrition misinformation and fraud.
-
Provide health professionals with resources and information enabling them to deal with clients' questions regarding unproved nutrition procedures, services or therapy.
-
Develop community support to decrease nutrition misinformation in Orange County.
