Mini-grant Program
The County of Orange Health Care Agency (HCA)
offers mini-grants to help groups conduct projects that will
improve the health of local children and support the efforts of
Orange County Nutrition and Physical Activity Collaborative (NuPAC).
HCA will support these mini-grants with funds
provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture/California
Department of Health Services/Network for a Healthy California grant.
All activities and materials paid for with these funds must be
targeted to low-income individuals or households eligible for Food
Stamps. Proposed projects should:

Promote, encourage or advocate increased
daily consumption of fruits and vegetables as part of
healthy eating that is consistent with the current Dietary
Guidelines for Americans and USDA Food Guidance System.

eating and active lifestyles that are consistent with the
current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and USDA Food Guidance
System.
Who can apply?
Eligible applicants must be Orange County nonprofit organizations
exempt from Federal income taxes under Section 501 (a) of the
Internal Revenue Codes.

Timeline
Eligible applicants may apply for up to $5,000. (Release date
pending). The funding must
be spent by the end of September each year.

Project will further integrate nutrition education into the Follow the Leader Program in which 5th & 6th grade students lead 1st & 2nd grade students through physical activity stations. Funds will be used to design ten additional taste testing activities, develop a training video, and train teachers at multiple school sites. |

Families Together of Orange County |

Five parents will be trained to (1) present an 8-week, 2-hour nutrition and physical activity curriculum to four apartment buildings, (2) coordinate a nutrition education and physical activity event during the closure of parking lot, (3) collect surveys and other evaluation tools that will reflect changes in knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, behaviors. |

To provide nutrition education and physical activity promotion through: (1) a 5-class curricula offered 3x/year that will teach basic nutrition and how to make favorite family recipes healthier and, (2) participation in & hosting of a nutrition & physical activity event. |
