The County of Orange Health Care Agency (HCA) is the lead
agency for Network for a Healthy California. The Children’s Power Play! and Latino Campaign activities have been
subcontracted to Community Action
Partnership - Orange County (CAP-OC).
Children’s Power Play! Campaign
The
Children’s Power Play! Campaign helps communities bring
nutrition and physical activity messages to low-income 9- to
11-year-old children through school classrooms and cafeterias,
community youth organizations, farmers’ markets, supermarket and
restaurant promotions, and media activities. Approximately
50,000 low-income children in Orange County are actively engaged
in Power Play! activities each year, with hundreds more reached
through advertising, media, tours, and special community events.
The Children’s Power Play! Campaign, as
part of the Orange County Network for a Healthy California, supports
the “Kid Healthy” Steps to Healthy
Living Campaign.
Latino Campaign
January 2005 marks the beginning of a new
campaign in Orange County - the Latino Campaign. This
program helps communities bring nutrition and physical activity
messages to low-
income
Latino adults. Annually, approximately 160,000 low-income Latino
adults in Orange County are actively engaged in Latino
activities that focus on knowledge and skill-building and reach
Latinos at farmers’/flea markets, supermarkets and
neighborhood grocery stores, direct health service provider
organizations, community clinics, and Latino cultural
gatherings.

Retail Campaign
The Retail Program works with over 60
Orange county grocery stores annually to increase the purchase
of fruits and vegetables among low-income adults and their
families. The Retail Program uses a combination of
in-store merchandising, such as point-of-sale materials and
recipe cards; promotional activities, such as food
demonstrations and retail-sponsored community events to help
consumers choose healthy foods.
Worksite Program
In an effort to increase employee morale and
worksite productivity through healthy eating and physical
activity promotion, the Be
Active Worksite Program was launched in December 2006.
This program focuses on Food Stamp eligible
workers, aged 18-54 years, located at worksites in qualifying
census tracts. Using the
California Fit Business Kit and the
Take Action! Employee
Wellness Program, 20 qualifying worksites and at least
5,000 workers annually will be recruited to support fruit and
vegetable consumption and physical activity in the workplace.
