Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP)!

In 1990, TUPP was established to reduce tobacco use and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke in Orange County. It is funded by monies generated by Proposition 99, a state tax on tobacco products.

TUPP collaborates with community agencies, youth, service and health organizations, city officials and schools throughout Orange County to offer a variety of tobacco education, cessation and policy programs:

Youth and Prevention Programs

Educational programs are offered which encourage youth and adult youth advisors to take a leadership role in preventing tobacco use. Projects include topics and activities in:

  • Media Advocacy

  • Youth Development and Leadership

  • Peer Education

  • Community Service

Public Policy Programs

Programs are developed to support the efforts of community organizations, local officials and Orange County residents to develop and strengthen laws and policies that regulate tobacco. These include:

  • Restrictions where smoking is permitted.

  • Reduction in the availability of tobacco products to minors

  • Regulation of the placement of tobacco advertisements and promotions.

Community Services Programs

TUPP staff assist health care providers, educators and other professionals in developing effective tobacco use prevention and cessation programs for various settings (e.g. health care sites, work sites, schools). TUPP maintains an extensive resource and video loan library and will provide a limited number of education and cessation materials free of charge.
