In 1990,
TUPP was established to reduce tobacco use and exposure to
environmental tobacco smoke in Orange County. It is funded by
monies generated by Proposition 99, a state tax on tobacco
products.
TUPP
collaborates with community agencies, youth, service and health
organizations, city officials and schools throughout Orange
County to offer a variety of tobacco education, cessation and
policy programs:
Youth and
Prevention Programs
Educational
programs are offered which encourage youth and adult youth
advisors to take a leadership role in preventing tobacco use.
Projects include topics and activities in:
Public Policy
Programs
Programs
are developed to support the efforts of community organizations,
local officials and Orange County residents to develop and
strengthen laws and policies that regulate tobacco. These
include:

Restrictions
where smoking is permitted.

Reduction
in the availability of tobacco products to minors

Regulation
of the placement of tobacco advertisements and promotions.
Community
Services Programs
TUPP staff
assist health care providers, educators and other professionals
in developing effective tobacco use prevention and cessation
programs for various settings (e.g. health care sites, work
sites, schools). TUPP maintains an extensive resource and video
loan library and will provide a limited number of education and
cessation materials free of charge.
