Center for Health Care Innovation’s Tobacco
Control Program at California State University, Long Beach
The Orange County Health
Care Agency’s Tobacco Use Prevention Program has funded the Center for
Health Care Innovation’s Tobacco Control Program at California State
University, Long Beach, under the direction of Dr. Stafford G. Cox, for
2005-2006. This program will promote Tobacco-Free Communities as the
Lead Agency in the City of Fountain Valley.
Our goal is to reduce the prevalence of youth and adult tobacco use and
residents' exposure to second-hand smoke. The city of Fountain Valley is
the focus of our community-school linked tobacco use prevention and
cessation activities. The target population includes school age youth,
high-risk youth, young adults ages 18-24 years old, parents and smokers.
We will collaborate with community organizations, schools, businesses,
health care providers, law enforcement, adult youth leaders, and
community leaders in achieving our goal.
-
Work in collaboration with Fountain
Valley, Valley Vista and Los Amigos High Schools, Golden West College,
Coastline Community College and others to provide effective tobacco
instruction, cessation and policy interventions.
-
Educate and mobilize community
members to reduce illegal tobacco advertising and youth access to
tobacco.
-
Subcontract with agencies and youth
groups to increase and strengthen tobacco control, education,
policies, and enforcement.
-
Mobilize youth and adults to increase
community participation in tobacco control activities.
-
Actively promote smoking cessation
and cessation provider services.
-
