Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. The majority of daily smokers began smoking before the ages of 18-year-old. Through tobacco education and prevention activities, the number of youth smoking can be decrease.
The Tobacco Use Prevention Program is a program that is committed to tobacco prevention and education in County of Orange. Our mission is to significantly decrease tobacco use and environmental tobacco smoke in th County of Orange. TUPP works with community organizations, schools, and local officials surrounding tobacco issues.
TUPP has many volunteer and internship opportunities for individuals who are interested in working on tobacco issues such as smoke-free areas, keeping tobacco away from youth, and reducing tobacco advertising.

Volunteer opportunities may include:
- Conducting community research and background work
- Working at the TUPP booth at health fairs and community events
- Assisting with clerical work (mailing packets, collating, etc.)
- Educating policy makers on current issues or proposed bills
- Distributing tobacco control materials in your community

Internship opportunities available
Unpaid Internships
Undergraduate or graduate students in any field that need to fill their internship hours
Internship duties may include:
- Recruiting youth, community leaders and parents to conduct community-based tobacco prevention activities
- Conducting trainings/health education presentations with youth
- Assist with or lead youth through community-based tobacco prevention activities
- Conducting surveys of Orange County colleges regarding their tobacco policies
- Developing tobacco activities for youth
