In order to keep the public informed about food safety and sanitation at Orange County’s restaurants and markets, Environmental Health Food Program provides a comprehensive Public Notification System. The system has four components:
- Printed inspection report available at the food facility
- High-visibility Inspection Notification Seals
- Award of Excellence incentive program
- Easy-to-use web page
The typed inspection report provides user friendly information not only to restaurant owners, but for anyone that wishes to view it. The report distinguishes violations that can cause foodborne illness (Major Violations) from those that do not (Minor Violations). The most recent food facility inspection report is required to be available for public view at all retail food facilities in Orange County. Just ask the food facility operator and they should make it available to you within a reasonable amount of time.
Sample Orange County Placards
Pass: An acceptable level of compliance was achieved. No reinspection is required.
Reinspection Due-Pass: Violations that may cause foodborne illness were observed and corrected. A follow-up inspection will be conducted on the date posted on the seal to ensure continued compliance.
Closed: Violation(s) observed posed an imminent danger to public health or safety, which could not be immediately corrected. Imminent health hazards include but are not limited to:
- Vermin (i.e., cockroaches and rodents)
- Sewage overflow
- Lack of potable or warm water
- Non-compliance with a Notice of Violation
- Operating without a valid health permit
This incentive program identifies and awards food establishments that achieve excellence in food safety and sanitation practices for an entire calendar year. The food facility is issued a certificate that can be posted inside of the facility, and is listed as an Award of Excellence winner at ocfoodinfo.com. Search the inspection records for food establishments in Orange County within the last 2 years.

Restaurant Closures
Search the inspection records for food establishments in Orange County that were closed within the last 60 days.
- Award of Excellence Listing
The list of facilities that received the Award of Excellence for the previous year is posted online for review.
