Updated recommendations for Acellular Pertussis Vaccine (Tdap):

ACIP Provisional Recommendations for Pregnant Women on Use of Tetanus Toxoid, Reduced Diphtheria Toxoid and Acellular Pertussis Vaccine (Tdap)—On June 22, 2011, the U.S. Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) approved recommendations for use of tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid and acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap) for pregnant women, and updated Tdap recommendations for persons in contact with infants and special situations. These recommendations are in line with the overall CDC strategy to reduce the burden of pertussis disease in infants and are consistent with existing ACIP recommendations for use of Tdap.

A summary of the recommendations has been posted at:  www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/pertussis/tdap-pregnancy-hcp.htm
