To help stop the spread of COVID-19 and in keeping with public health guidelines of social distancing, the NEW LUNG in-person classes have been postponed.

Free Quit Smoking or Vaping Telephone Counseling


FREE countywide services to quit smoking or vaping are available for teens and adults who live, work, or attend school in Orange County by calling 1-866-NEW-LUNG (1-866-639-5864) or visiting the New Lung website.

Please note that all in-person classes are currently postponed.

Adult services are offered in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, and Farsi. Free Nicotine Patches are available to adults 18 and older who complete any of the adult cessation services.

What will happen when I call the 1-866-NEW-LUNG line?

You will speak to a counselor who will let you know when and where the next seminar or class is, or schedule an individual counseling session with you. You can choose any service that best fits your needs.

Tips to Help You Quit

  • Believe you can quit – You can be successful in quitting. It may take you several tries before you successfully quit. It’s ok. Just believe you can do it!
  • Write down why you want to quit – Are you quitting for your loved one, for your health, to set a good example for your children, or to protect your family from breathing secondhand tobacco smoke or aerosol from e-cigarettes?
  • Set a quit date – Make a commitment to quit. Think about quitting on a special day, such as on your birthday, anniversary, wedding, New Year’s Day, etc.
  • Throw away all tobacco products and vapes, and remove anything that reminds you of smoking or vaping. When you don’t have these triggers around you, you’re more likely to stay away from smoking and vaping.

Kick It CA offers free quit smoking and vaping services for adults and youth throughout the state of California.  Services are available in the following languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean.  Services available include: telephone counseling, text-based services, and mobile apps.  Free nicotine patches are available to participants of telephone counseling.

City of Hope – C31 Cessation Program

City of Hope will support people with proper cessation medications to overcome withdrawal symptoms/cravings, behavioral strategies to break habits that trigger smoking, strategic problem solving and social support to boost their chance of success. Services include tobacco use assessment, individual cessation counseling with education, resources and behavioral interventions, tobacco cessation medications, rapid action plan for relapse, same day face-to-face or phone counseling, referrals, and a tobacco cessation support group.

The LGBTQ Center Orange County is making a commitment to support and encourage the LGBTQ+ community in accessing free smoking cessation services and resources. They are offering free assistance in finding alternative methods to reduce the stress that might be making people turn to tobacco use in the first place.

Nicotine Anonymous

Nicotine Anonymous ("NicA") is a non-profit 12-step fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous, to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
