OC-MEDS Outcome Data FAQ

OCEMS Policy 391.10 is being replaced by OCEMS Policy 300.50 which is active as of July 1, 2021 and goes into effect on Oct 1, 2021.

The standard is 100%, however we recognize that implementing processes that can reliably achieve 100% will take some time. Policy 300.50 formally goes into effect on Oct 1st, 2021.

Outcome data is required on all 911(ALS and BLS) and IFT-ALS transports.

As duplicate data entry is not required, please enter outcome data on the most appropriate PCR available. In general the Fire ALS or IFT-ALS agency PCR is preferable if available.

There are not any reports currently available in Hospital Hub. However you may coordinate with an EMS provider that has access to the OC-MEDS ePCR, that system is capable of reporting on the outcome data elements.

This element is a free text field with a max length of 1000 characters (including spaces). We are lobbying to have the size of this field increased to allow for easier cut and paste of EHR summary notes. Hospitals should exercise discretion when documenting this element to provide additional insight into the patient's outcome.

We recognize that your facility may not code procedures using ICD-10-PCS Codes.  OCEMS does not have the authority to modify these NEMSIS defined elements (eOutcomes.09/12) to accept CPT or HCPCS Codes. OCEMS recognizes that challenges exist in mapping CPT/HCPCS Codes to ICD-10-PCS Codes and the OC-MEDS Usage for these elements is still under consideration. Please document pertinent procedures that provide clinically relevant feedback to the EMS provider. If you have questions about which code to use for a pertinent procedure please email  (oc-meds@ochca.com).

Update 6/29/2021: The ICD-10 code set has been updated to 2021 standards. Please contact oc-meds@ochca.com if you have any issues finding the correct ICD-10 code.

Previous Response: The dropdown menu provided for the Diagnosis elements has not yet been updated to the 2021 ICD-10 code set. We recommend documenting the most appropriate code available as we do not currently have a date on when our code bank will be updated.
