
The County of Orange Environmental Health Division manages a comprehensive outreach and education program centered around the proper management and disposal of used oil and filters. OC Regional Used Oil Recyling Program aims to raise awareness of local oil recycling resources and reduce illegal disposal of used oil and filters. The program currently serves 26 participating cities and the unincorporated areas of Orange County.

It is important to take used oil and used oil filters to one of the many certified used oil collection centers. Used oil can be processed into new lubricating oils and fuels, and steel from used oil filters can be recycled into new metal products.
Used oil that contains water, fuel, antifreeze or debris cannot be recycled. You can take contaminated used oil, used oil filters and other automotive fluids and wastes to an Orange County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center for FREE disposal. Yes, used oil is very recyclable. It can be re-refined or processed into fuel oil.
Take your used oil to one of the many CalRecycle Certified Collection Centers or a Household Hazardous Waste Center in Orange County. All Certified Centers will accept uncontaminated used oil from the public absolutely FREE during normal business hours. To recycle your used oil:
- Be sure to drain your oil into a clean container with a tight-fitting lid. And don't forget to bring your used oil filters in for recycling, too.
