About Pulmonary Disease Services (Tuberculosis Control)

Healthcare providers and laboratories are required to report confirmed or suspected active TB disease in an Orange County resident to Orange County TB Control within one (1) working day. 

Orange County Tuberculosis (TB) Control also has a full-service clinic in Santa Ana for TB screening, diagnosis, and treatment. 

TB Control Services

HCA Orange County TB Control offers evaluation and treatment of individuals with active or suspected active TB disease.

Orange County TB Control offers TB screening services (TB tests, chest x-rays, symptom check, and physician evaluation, when appropriate) to residents of Orange County who meet the following criteria: 

  1. Contacts to active or suspected active TB cases
  2. Persons with HIV/AIDS
  3. Persons with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/Division of Global Migration and Health (DGMH) Class A, B0, B1 or B3 TB waivers
  4. Orange County Juvenile Health Services minors with a positive TST and a fully completed and signed County of Orange Health Care Agency Radiology Services Request form
  5. Clients of residential detoxification centers, and drug and alcohol treatment and rehabilitation centers
  6. Clients of residential shelters
  7. Clients with two or more TB symptoms, such as cough, coughing-up blood, fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, and/or clients with abnormal chest x-rays consistent with active TB disease.

TB screening services are NOT offered to individuals needing work or school clearances, including but not limited to: students, teachers, school volunteers, certified employees (e.g., janitors), health care workers, childcare workers, and foster parents. Persons needing TB screening for work or school clearances should contact their private physician, a neighborhood medical clinic, or a clinic associated with a pharmacy.

HCA Orange County TB Control offers treatment for latent TB infection (LTBI) to residents of Orange County who are at are at highest risk for progression from TB infection to active TB disease, as follows: 

  1. Contacts to active or suspected active TB cases
  2. Persons with HIV/AIDS
  3. Persons with CDC/ DGMH Class B0, B1 or B3 TB waivers
  4. Orange County Juvenile Health Services minors with a completed LTBI Medical Discharge Instruction Sheet
  5. Foreign born persons who have resided in the United States within the past 2 years who are uninsured and with a high risk of progression to active TB
  6. U.S. Department of State/International Organization for Migration (IOM) Refugees, Parolees, Asylees, or Victims of Trafficking
