| DESCRIPTION | Screening procedure for isolation and identification of Leptospira utilizing conventional biochemical testing techniques. |
| SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS | SPECIMEN: Urine, whole blood, CSF. Multiple specimens must be taken at least one day apart. CONTAINER: Sterile screw cap container (urine, CSF). Vacutainer tube with sodium polyanethol sulfonate SPS (whole blood) COLLECTION: Urine specimens - cleanse genitals, collect midstream, dilute 1:10 with 1% bovine serum albumin for transport. Ship urine, CSF and blood specimens at ambient temperature (25±5°C). Submit whole blood or CSF during the first 7-10 days of illness. Submit urine after 7-10 days of illness. TRANSPORT CONDITIONS: Room Temperature (25±5°C): 1 hour (Urine, CSF); as soon as possible (blood) Refrigerated (5±3°C): Unacceptable Frozen (-15±5°C): Unacceptable |
